Attendance at SPAR 2008J grew 20% to over 300 attendees, up from 261 in 2006. The growth and diversity in both attendees and program content document the Japan market's expanding demand for 3D capture and position measurement solutions that yield demonstrable cost, schedule, safety and quality values.

Presentations and panel discussions covered technology trends in plant applications, 3D model creation from measured data, civil and building best practices, historic preservation best practices, plant best practices, even mobile survey - the focus of a new session at SPAR 2007J.

Civil engineering and transportation projects continue to account for the largest portion of 3D laser scanning applications in Japan today. Process and power industry applications are seeing accelerating adoption. Some service providers also report strong growth in scanning of automotive production facilities. Using scanning to document cultural heritage facilities is another important application in the Japan market.
